And if SDM wins best picture ... well, I'm not even going to think about it. Just finished watching the film last night. Rather disappointing after a frenetic first 30 minutes. And on the whole, quite contrived. I'm pretty sure, it's mostly Tandan's film.

feel good, underdog always turns on a jury. but i am almost certain slumdog won't win the best picture. there are many shades of city of god, there. where it has a strong chance is cinematography, adapted screenplay, song, music & direction.

Not even Screenplay. SDM is a poorly conceived film. A nice idea shabbily executed. Milk and The curious case of BB are infinitely superior.

Notice, Danny never talks much about the film. He keeps saying he loves the spirit of mumbai. I'm pretty sure he oversaw a bit of the stuff in the beginning, then he sat back as Tandan took over and tried to do a Salaam Bombay all over again. Anil Kapoor is hilariously, naturally mediocre. See how he exulted after they got the Golden Globe...it looked like the shoot was still on. The children were superb. The rest were as bad seemed like an amateur troupe trying to do an English play in Nagpur. Irfan Khan must discover new personas. In the long run Rahman will disown this film. Both O saya and Jaya Ho are sound like first cut efforts done with an eye on the deadline. They don't have the layered nuances that Rahamna is famous for. In fact the two tracks that stand out are from MIA (Paper Plane and the remix of it). Interestingly these two tracks are missing in the CD sold in India. Why? I wonder. Meanwhile Rahman is back to being superb. Just listen to Masakali. Yeah, no bite in the barking Slumdog.

Speaking of which, for those who like to be spoonfed: http://top10mp3download.blogspot.com/2008/08/mia-paper-planes-mp3.html that done, you'll have to find yourself the remix. it's pretty frikkin awesome too. and if danny did let it go after the first twenty minutes or so, it shows. the first twenty minutes are, to use a much abused and misunderstood word, effin' edgy.
