I'm sure many of us have watched this man and his umpiring partner Dickie Bird many a time on TV. Leagues ahead in terms of judgement, they brought a certain sense of respect to the profession. If it was a David Shepherd or a Dickie Bird decision, seldom would a player appeal again. David says: In a difficult moment, I would look at the other umpire. All that was needed was a reassuring glance and nod from one to the other.
